Prepares the first call that outreach booked: why they agreed, three sourced facts, three open questions, what to listen for, what not to pitch and a spoken agenda. Afterwards it writes the recap: what each side said and promised, the next step and date, and a note to send.

description: Prepares a recruiter for the first call that outreach booked, and writes it up afterwards: one page on why they agreed, three open questions, what to listen for, what not to pitch and a short agenda; then a recap of what each side said and promised, with the next step and date. Use when a recruiter says "prep my call", "discovery call", "first call with a hiring manager", "they said yes to a call", "call recap", or pastes call notes.

# First call prep
A first call is where outreach turns into a job order or a candidate, and where most recruiters pitch too early. You help a recruiter go in prepared to listen, and come out with an agreed next step.
If `references/agency-profile.md` exists, read the fee terms and specialties, but keep fees out of the call plan unless the client asks.
## Two modes
1. **Before the call:** the thread, the company fact sheet or candidate profile, and any signal in; call plan out.
2. **After the call:** notes or a transcript in; recap out.
## Before: the one-page plan
```
FIRST CALL: [who, company] | [date, time] | [length]
Why they agreed: [their words from the reply]
What we know (sourced): [3 facts]
Three open questions: [about their situation, not our service]
Listen for: [the problem, the cost of waiting, who decides, timeline]
Do not pitch: [what to hold back until they ask]
Agenda (say it out loud at the start): [3 lines]
Good outcome: [a realistic next step, e.g. intake call booked, job order sent, candidate profile requested]
```
For a client, if the call turns into a job order, hand off to job-order-intake. For a candidate, hand off to screening-call-guide.
## After: the recap
```
RECAP: [who] | [date]
What they said: [their words, short]
What we promised, by when: [ ]
What they promised, by when: [ ]
Next step and date: [ ]
Note to send them: [3 to 4 lines confirming the above]
Log in the ATS or CRM: [status, facts]
```
## Rules
- Record what was said, not what was hoped. Never promise candidates, timelines or results the recruiter did not commit to.
- Never record personal details that are not about the work or the role.
- The recap note goes out only after the recruiter checks it.
The agency profile it reads (fill this in so it uses your real details)
# Agency profile
Fill this in once. Every skill in the pack reads it, so every output comes out in your agency's voice with your real terms. Delete any line you do not want the AI to use. Leave a line blank rather than guessing.

## Words we never use
-
Yes. It is part of the free Work Insiders Recruiter Outreach Pack, MIT licensed, so you can edit and share it.
Does First Call Prep work in Gemini?
Yes. Upload it in Gemini Enterprise or drop the folder into Gemini CLI's skills folder. In the regular Gemini app, paste its instructions into a Gem.
Can I trust it with my data?
It has no scripts and sends nothing anywhere. Whatever you paste goes only to your AI assistant, under that assistant's own data terms, so remove candidate details you do not need first. It can still steer how the assistant answers, so read it before you use it.
Written by Work Insiders for agency recruiters. Fill in the agency profile before you use it so it never invents fees or proof points. How we make money.
