What it does
Answer a few questions and get custom instructions for ChatGPT, Claude or Grok that know your desk, tone and rules.
Every assistant starts each chat knowing nothing about you. So you explain your niche, restate that you never want hype words and remind it not to rank candidates, again and again. Custom instructions fix that: a few lines the assistant reads before every chat.
This builder writes them for a recruiting desk. Answer the questions, choose Build my instructions, and copy the result into ChatGPT, Claude or Grok.
Build your AI instructions
Answer a few questions about your desk and get instructions to paste into ChatGPT, Claude or Grok, so every chat knows who you recruit for, how you write and what it must never do. Your answers stay in this browser.
Nothing you type leaves this browser. It is saved on this device so you can come back and edit it; use Clear all on a shared computer.
What do you get?
| Output | Where it goes | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: about you | The “about you” box in your assistant’s custom instructions | Who you are, what you recruit for and where |
| Part 2: how to respond | The “how to respond” or preferences box | Tone, spelling, message length, words to avoid and your standing rules |
| Full version | A project’s instructions | One client, one job family or one type of task, alongside files such as the search brief |
Which rules matter most for recruiters?
Three rules are ticked by default because they prevent the most common and most costly mistakes. The first stops the assistant inventing facts about candidates, companies or pay when your notes run out. The second keeps it from scoring or rejecting candidates, a decision that belongs to a person and, under some AI hiring laws, has to. The third keeps everything as a draft, so nothing reaches a candidate before you read it.
Shorter is better. An assistant follows six clear rules more reliably than twenty vague ones, so untick anything you do not need.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between custom instructions and a project?
Custom instructions apply to every chat in your account. A project applies only to the chats inside it and can also hold files. Use custom instructions for who you are and how you write, and a project for a specific client or job. Module 8, Lesson 2 walks through projects.
Why is there a character count?
ChatGPT’s custom instruction boxes hold about 1,500 characters each, so the builder counts each part and warns you when it runs over. Project instructions have much more room, which is why the full version is kept separate.
Should I put candidate names or client names in my instructions?
No. Instructions travel into every chat. Describe your market in general terms, and keep named people and confidential clients out, especially on a personal plan.
Is what I type stored?
Only in your own browser, so you can come back and edit it. Nothing is sent to Work Insiders and there is no account. Use Clear all on a shared computer.
