What it does
Get up to eight recruiter headlines under 220 characters, with the words that show first marked.
Why it matters: your headline follows you into every comment, search result and connection request. “Recruiter at Acme” tells nobody what you recruit for. Candidates search for the roles they do, and hiring managers search for recruiters who fill them. A headline that names the roles, the industry and the place gets you found by both.
Write your recruiter headline
Tell it who you place and where. You get up to eight headlines in different styles, each under LinkedIn's 220 character limit, with the words that show first in search and comments marked in bold.
Everything runs in your browser and is saved on this device only. Edit any headline before you paste it: it should sound like you.
How long can a LinkedIn headline be?
The LinkedIn editor allows 220 characters, per LinkedIn character limits. Only the first part shows next to your name in comments and search before LinkedIn cuts the line, so the generator marks roughly that part in bold. Put your title and the roles you fill there, and use the rest for industry, location and proof.
Which headline style should a recruiter use?
| Style | Best for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Search friendly | Being found in LinkedIn search | Senior Technical Recruiter at Northpoint | Recruiting Software and Data Engineers | Atlanta |
| Who I place | Agency recruiters | Senior Technical Recruiter | I place Software and Data Engineers in Fintech |
| Proof first | Winning clients | 300+ placements since 2014 | Senior Technical Recruiter |
| For candidates | Inbound applicants | Helping Software Engineers find their next role · Message me |
| For clients | Agency and search firms | Helping Fintech companies hire Software Engineers · 300+ placements |
| Hiring now | Open roles this month | Hiring now: Staff Engineers, DevOps | Recruiter at Acme |
| Short and plain | In-house recruiters | Recruiter at Acme · Nurses |
| Keyword rich | Covering every search term | Executive Search Consultant | Recruiting CFOs | Private Equity | Executive Search |
You see up to eight. Hiring now only appears when you name open roles, and For clients is skipped for sourcers and in-house recruiters.
What should you leave out of a recruiter headline?
- Bold or fancy characters. LinkedIn search does not match them, so your headline stops working as keywords.
- Vague words like “talent connector” or “people person” that nobody types into search.
- Claims you cannot back up. A real number beats “top recruiter”.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change my LinkedIn headline?
Open your profile, tap the pencil next to your name, paste the new text into Headline and save. On a phone the steps are the same in the app.
Should my headline target candidates or clients?
Pick whoever you most need to hear from this quarter. Agency recruiters building a desk often lead with clients; recruiters with many open roles lead with candidates. You can change it any time.
