The base seat price is not the whole bill: additional invoices, projects, clients and tasks are charged on usage as a team grows, so model the cost before rolling it out. Timesheet approvals and profitability reports are Enterprise only, and SAML SSO cannot be tested during the trial.

Not the right fit for
Worth keeping in mind: Invoicing is part of the core product rather than an add on: tracked time and expenses become invoices, and payments and accounting connect to Stripe, QuickBooks Online, Xero and Deel. The 30 day trial includes Enterprise features like profitability reporting and approvals, and no card is taken.

$3.99/user/mo Free tier 7 day free trial API
Why it comes up: Much lower per seat price with invoicing on Standard, though Harvest's invoicing and payments are more complete.
Stands out: It carries one of the biggest review counts in time tracking, 4.8 on Capterra across 9,268 reviews, and the paid tiers are cheap enough to roll out company wide. The kiosk, timesheet approval and a payroll report of breaks, overtime and time off make it usable for hourly staff as well as for billable project work.
Watch out: The free plan now stops at 5 users, so larger teams pay for every seat, and owners and admins count as seats too. Timesheet approval, time off and invoicing are not on Basic, and GPS location tracking, scheduling and expenses start on Pro. Monthly billing costs about 25% more than the annual prices.

$9/user/mo Free tier 30 day free trial API
Why it comes up: Stronger on capacity and workload planning, with no usage charges on top of its per user price.
Stands out: Toggl takes a deliberate anti surveillance stance: no screenshots, keystroke, browsing or location recording, just timers people start themselves, which helps adoption with salaried and creative staff. Capacity views that account for PTO, public holidays and flexible hours sit next to the timesheet, and every paid plan gets a 30 day trial.
Watch out: Timesheet approvals, labor cost and profitability reports and the Jira and Asana integrations are Premium only, so billing heavy teams usually need the $16 tier. Monthly billing costs noticeably more than the annual prices shown. It is not a time clock, so hourly staff who need geofenced punches or kiosks are better served elsewhere.

$3.99/user/mo Free tier Free trial API
Why it comes up: Automatic time capture in the background and invoicing from $3.99 per user, for teams that forget to start timers.
Stands out: It is one of the few trackers that keeps a free plan with unlimited users, and its keyword based auto tracking logs time in the background rather than relying on timers. Starter at $3.99 already adds attendance, time off, overtime and invoicing, which rivals hold back for higher tiers.
Watch out: The AI time tracker is charged on token usage on top of the seat price, estimated by the vendor at about $6 per user a month, which can more than double the Starter bill. Timesheet approvals, screenshots, labor costs and SSO sit on Ultimate at $9.99, and some reviewers report bugs in the mobile app.
