What Is an AI Teammate Like Grok Bot, and When Should a Recruiter Use One?
Grok Bot and similar AI teammates work on their own cloud computer, sign into your apps and keep going after you close the laptop. Here is how they differ from a chat assistant, what they cost, what to hand them first and where you stay in charge.

The short answer
An AI teammate is an assistant that works on its own computer instead of in a chat window. Grok Bot, from xAI, is the best known example: each bot gets a cloud computer with a browser, signs into your apps and websites, works through a job for hours and pauses for your approval on sensitive steps.
Use one when the work lives in tools that have no connector, or when a job takes longer than a chat. Start with one bot, one job and a firm rule that it never contacts or rejects a candidate on its own.
How is an AI teammate different from a chat assistant?
Grok, the chat assistant at grok.com and in X, answers and drafts. Grok Bot is a separate app that acts. The same split exists elsewhere: ChatGPT and Claude chats answer, while their browser tools can click through websites for you.

What does Grok Bot do?
According to xAI’s Grok Bot page, each bot works on a persistent cloud computer, signs into your apps and websites, runs around the clock in parallel with other bots, can learn a routine from watching you do it once and pauses for your approval on sensitive steps. It runs in its own desktop and mobile apps, separate from grok.com.
xAI launched it in beta in August 2026 and opened it to enterprise customers in September, naming recruiting uses such as overnight sourcing shortlists and interview scorecards filed from call recordings, per xAI’s enterprise post.
What does it cost?
There is no separate Grok Bot price for most people. It is bundled with paid SuperGrok plans, X Premium+ and some Cursor plans, with its own weekly usage allowance separate from Grok chat, according to xAI’s plans update. The plan list has changed several times since launch, so check it before you budget. Long browser sessions and several bots running at once use the allowance fastest.
ChatGPT and Claude offer browser tools too: a cloud browser in ChatGPT on paid plans above Go, and Claude in Chrome on paid Claude plans. They are closer to an assistant that borrows your browser than to a standing team of bots, but they cover many of the same one off jobs.
What recruiting work should you hand over first?
Start with read and prepare work. Do not start with send.

How do you set up your first bot safely?
- One bot, one job. Name it for the job, such as Talent Scout, and give it a single deliverable.
- Write the stop rule into its instructions. “Draft only. Never contact, reject or change records without my approval.”
- Give it the least access it needs. Bots on one account can share a computer, files and logins, so a bot that can open your email can read it.
- Stay inside the rules of the sites it uses. Do not ask it to scrape LinkedIn; its user agreement forbids automated copying of profiles.
- Handle logins yourself. When the bot reaches a password, two factor code or CAPTCHA, you take over.
- Read the first three runs closely before you schedule it or add a second bot.

What about privacy and the law?
A bot that signs into your ATS moves candidate data onto another computer. Get approval from your employer or client first, update your candidate notice if needed, and check the data settings for the account the bot runs under. xAI’s documentation says Grok Bot runs through a linked account and follows that account’s privacy settings, so read the Grok Bot FAQ before you connect anything sensitive.
The hiring laws in Module 4, Lesson 3 apply whether a person or a bot does the screening. If a bot ranks or filters candidates, you own the outcome, which is why every reject and every advance stays with a person.

Is Grok Bot the same as Grok?

Not for writing and analysis. Consider it when your work lives in tools with no connector, or when you want jobs to run for hours without you.
Can Grok Bot send candidate emails?
It can, if you let it. Do not. Let it draft, then send from the outreach tool you already trust.
How many bots should a beginner run?
One, then two once the first is reliable. A sourcing bot and a coordinator bot cover most desks.
