Why people look past Skillsoft

It is a large enterprise platform and the enterprise price is quoted, with independent estimates running from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand dollars a year for big deployments. The self-serve Teams plan is content access, not the full skills management platform. There is no MCP server, and the skills data is only as good as the roles and HR data you feed it.

What we noted

  • Enterprise pricing is quoted and can run high
  • No MCP server
  • Skills intelligence depends on clean role and HR data

Not the right fit for

  • Small companies that just need a simple LMS
  • Teams that want a modern LXP interface over their own content rather than a vendor library
  • Anyone who needs an MCP server or agent access to learning data

Worth keeping in mind: CAISY. Most learning platforms stop at a video and a quiz; CAISY lets a first-time manager rehearse a feedback conversation or a recruiter practise a tough client call with an AI that responds in character and then critiques the exchange. Combined with the depth of the library, including Codecademy for Enterprise and live instructor-led tech classes, it covers more of the skill-building lifecycle than most rivals.

What each one does differently

Degreed

Sales-quoted MCP API

Why it comes up: A learning experience platform and skills data layer that sits over many content sources, with Maestro AI coaching and an official MCP server, if you want the skills layer without a single vendor's library.

Stands out: Degreed Maestro delivers AI role-play, coaching and adaptive exercises, and Skills Check-Ins calibrate employee skill ratings against the company's own taxonomy. The Degreed MCP lets ChatGPT and Claude update skills and share learning while admins choose which capabilities are exposed.

Watch out: Degreed is not a compliance LMS on its own, so many buyers still need a separate LMS. Pricing is custom by headcount and Degreed does not advertise a free trial, so evaluation runs through demos.

Best for

  • Global enterprises with several LMSs and content libraries
  • Skills-based workforce transformation programs
  • Cohort academies for leadership or AI fluency

Cornerstone

Sales-quoted

Why it comes up: Enterprise LMS and talent suite that also covers performance and recruiting, for companies that want learning inside a wider talent platform.

Stands out: Cornerstone Galaxy AI is built on a large skills and labor data set, powering recommendations, growth paths, and AI assistants across Learn and Elevate bundles.

Watch out: There is no self-serve rate card on cornerstoneondemand.com. AWS Marketplace listings exist as representative-customer figures, not a checkout price.

Best for

  • Global enterprises that want LMS, LXP, performance, and recruiting in one TXP
  • L&D teams standardizing skills data rather than a department Moodle
  • HR orgs already comparing Workday Learning or SAP SuccessFactors

Docebo

Sales-quoted MCP API

Why it comes up: Enterprise LMS with AI agents and skills intelligence, stronger on partner and customer training.

Stands out: Docebo lets you choose how users are counted (monthly, yearly or registered active users), so seasonal or external audiences can be priced by real activity. Its MCP server ships a built-in Learner server plus custom admin servers with tools for enrollments, learning plans and Go1 marketplace imports.

Watch out: Many valuable pieces are paid add-ons, including Roleplay, Communities, E-Commerce, the branded mobile app on Elevate and the Salesforce and Microsoft Teams embeds. Docebo says most customers sign three to five year contracts, and onboarding fees are scoped during the sales process.

Best for

  • Enterprises training employees, partners and customers on one platform
  • L&D teams running multilingual programs with AI translation
  • Organizations that want to reach learning data from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot

SocialTalent

€95/licence/yr

Why it comes up: Recruiter and interviewer training from €95 per licence a year, if hiring skills are the only gap.

Stands out: Cara automates and hybridizes hiring tasks (the vendor cites 37% fully automated, 40% hybrid, 23% human) and folds interview intelligence into that workflow rather than selling only an LMS.

Watch out: No USD rate card. Fees above 200,000 annual hires are quoted individually. Recruiter training is priced separately on the same page: TA Academies from €1,095 per licence per year on 8 or more licences, and License to Hire from €95 per licence per year on a 50-licence minimum.

Best for

  • Enterprise TA teams that want interview intelligence plus interviewer training
  • Organisations hiring 1,000-plus people a year that can fund a €30,000 floor
  • Companies standardizing interview quality and bias mitigation
