Compare/Head to head

Docebo vs Skillsoft

Same facts, side by side: starting price, free tier, MCP, API and what each one is actually built for.

Docebo

Sales-quoted

Docebo is an enterprise learning platform for organizations that train employees, partners and customers at scale, usually 250 learners or more. Pricing is quote-only, set by tier (Elevate or Enterprise) and an active-user model, with a one-year minimum term. It also ships an official, documented MCP server for AI assistants. Smaller teams will find the contract model and onboarding scope heavy.

Where Docebo fits

  • Enterprises training employees, partners and customers on one platform
  • L&D teams running multilingual programs with AI translation
  • Organizations that want to reach learning data from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot
  • Companies consolidating several department LMSs

Skillsoft

$25/seat/mo Free trial

Skillsoft is the content-heavy end of enterprise learning: a very large Percipio library across leadership, compliance and technology, now wrapped in a skills management layer with CAISY, an AI simulator for practising hard conversations, and an AI coach. Small teams can start at $25 per seat a month; enterprise deals are sales-quoted.

Where Skillsoft fits

  • Enterprises that want one library for leadership, compliance and technology training
  • L&D teams that need to practise soft skills at scale, not just assign courses
  • Companies already on Workday, SuccessFactors or Cornerstone that want certified learning integrations
  • Tech teams upskilling with Codecademy for Enterprise and instructor-led classes

Where they pull apart

Docebo

Stands out: Docebo lets you choose how users are counted (monthly, yearly or registered active users), so seasonal or external audiences can be priced by real activity. Its MCP server ships a built-in Learner server plus custom admin servers with tools for enrollments, learning plans and Go1 marketplace imports.

Watch out: Many valuable pieces are paid add-ons, including Roleplay, Communities, E-Commerce, the branded mobile app on Elevate and the Salesforce and Microsoft Teams embeds. Docebo says most customers sign three to five year contracts, and onboarding fees are scoped during the sales process.

Not the right fit for

  • Small teams with fewer than 250 learners
  • Buyers who need a self-serve plan with a published price

Skillsoft

Stands out: CAISY. Most learning platforms stop at a video and a quiz; CAISY lets a first-time manager rehearse a feedback conversation or a recruiter practise a tough client call with an AI that responds in character and then critiques the exchange. Combined with the depth of the library, including Codecademy for Enterprise and live instructor-led tech classes, it covers more of the skill-building lifecycle than most rivals.

Watch out: It is a large enterprise platform and the enterprise price is quoted, with independent estimates running from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand dollars a year for big deployments. The self-serve Teams plan is content access, not the full skills management platform. There is no MCP server, and the skills data is only as good as the roles and HR data you feed it.

Not the right fit for

  • Small companies that just need a simple LMS
  • Teams that want a modern LXP interface over their own content rather than a vendor library
  • Anyone who needs an MCP server or agent access to learning data

Pros and cons

Docebo

  • Flexible user-count models: monthly, yearly or registered active users
  • Official MCP server with learner and admin tools, documented on Docebo's developer portal
  • Strong extended-enterprise support for partner and customer training
  • No public pricing and a one-year minimum term
  • Several key modules are paid add-ons
  • Onboarding and professional services are often scoped as extra fees

Skillsoft

  • One of the largest enterprise learning libraries, including tech and Codecademy
  • CAISY lets people practise conversations with AI feedback
  • Certified Workday integration and connectors for the main LMS and LXP platforms
  • Self-serve Teams plan with a published price and free trial
  • Enterprise pricing is quoted and can run high
  • No MCP server
  • Skills intelligence depends on clean role and HR data

What each one costs

Docebo

Sales-quoted

Docebo does not publish prices. It sells two tiers, Elevate and Enterprise, priced by tier and by active users, counted as Monthly Active Users, Yearly Active Users or Registered Active Users depending on the contract. Enterprise adds advanced analytics, up to 10 extended enterprise domains, two sandboxes, a branded mobile app and a higher API limit of 100 calls per minute. Roleplay, Communities, E-Commerce, Content and other modules are paid add-ons. The minimum contract is one year, most customers sign for three to five years, and Docebo says it fits best at 250 or more learners. Confirm current terms on the vendor site.
