Bottom line

Time tracker, timesheet approvals, task board and team chat that is free for unlimited people with every feature, charging only once a workspace passes 500 MB of usage a month (Pro is $29/mo for 5 GB). Its twist is AI agents as teammates: they take tasks, log their own time and show up in billable reports. A REST API and MCP server come with the free plan.

Stands out for: No per-seat pricing at all, so a 50-person team pays the same as a 5-person one, and approvals, billable rates and reports are not held back for a higher tier. It is one of very few time trackers built to record the hours and cost of AI agent work alongside people.

Watch out for: It is a young product with no import from Harvest, Toggl or Clockify yet, so switching means starting fresh. There is no GPS or kiosk time clock for hourly or field staff, no payroll export, and Pro is billed monthly only. Usage based pricing means a chat and file heavy team can reach the paid plan sooner than a team that only tracks time.

Overview

Hourtick is a time tracking app that has grown into a small work hub: a timer in the Mac menu bar and browser, weekly timesheets, a task board and team chat, all in one workspace.

Timers fill the week automatically, missed entries can be typed straight into the grid, and an AI assistant proposes entries for gaps from what you did in Hourtick, without reading your screen. Timesheets are submitted and approved in one click, and approved or invoiced time locks so it cannot drift.

Tasks live on a board or list with assignees, due dates, checklists, files and their own chat. Team chat has channels, DMs and threads, and typing # drops in a live task or running timer.

AI agents can be added like teammates. You mention one in chat or assign it a task, watch it work, and it logs its own time and cost against the task so agent work appears in reports and invoices.

Pricing is by usage, not seats: free for unlimited people with 500 MB a month, Pro at $29/mo for 5 GB and $10 per extra GB. Invoicing runs through your own Stripe account with no Hourtick fee, and the vendor says it never takes screenshots or records apps or keystrokes.

Who it's for

Best for

  • Agencies and consultancies billing clients by the hour
  • Teams that want approvals free without paying per seat
  • Teams handing work to AI agents and billing for it
  • Mac users who want a menu bar timer

Not ideal for

  • Hourly shift workers who clock in at a kiosk or by GPS
  • Teams that need payroll integration
  • Companies wanting to import years of Harvest or Toggl data

Key features

Timer and timesheets. Mac menu bar and browser timer with idle detection and offline sync, a weekly timesheet grid, and one-click submit and approve that locks approved weeks.

Tasks and chat. Board and list views with assignees, checklists and files, plus channels, DMs and threads where tasks and running timers show up live.

AI agents on the team. Mention an agent in chat or hand it a task; it logs its own time and cost so AI work can be reported and billed.

Billing. Billable rates, budget burn, reports by client or project, and invoices through your own Stripe with no Hourtick fee.
