Granola from $14/user/moMCP serverAPI

The short answer

  • Fathom : Joins as a bot but keeps full recordings and clips you can share with hiring managers, with unlimited free recordings, where Granola keeps no audio at all. From $15/user/mo
  • Otter : Cheaper paid plan from $8.33/user/mo and a live transcript during the call, though it joins your meetings as a bot. From $8.33/user/mo

Why people look past Granola

It is a general meeting notepad, not a recruiting tool: there is no ATS or recruiting CRM integration, no scorecards and no interview kits, CRM sync with HubSpot, Attio or Affinity needs Business, and Salesforce is Enterprise only. Because no bot announces it, you have to tell candidates you are transcribing yourself; an admin-enforced notice is Enterprise only. Audio is deleted after transcription, so there is no recording to replay or share.

What we noted

  • Free plan only shows the last 30 days of notes
  • No ATS or recruiting CRM integration
  • Salesforce, SSO and an admin-enforced recording notice need the $35 Enterprise plan

Not the right fit for

  • In-house teams that need interview notes pushed into Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby
  • Teams that want call recordings or clips to share with hiring managers
  • Anyone who wants structured interview scorecards

Worth keeping in mind: No bot joins the call. Granola captures your device audio in the background, works on Zoom, Meet, Teams, Slack huddles and in-person meetings through its mobile apps, and builds the notes around what you typed, so a candidate sees a normal call rather than a recorder in the participant list. Its MCP server then lets Claude or ChatGPT answer questions across all your past calls.

What each one does differently

Metaview

$60/user/mo Free tier MCP

Why it comes up: Built for recruiting interviews, with notes structured for hiring decisions and ATS sync, at $60/user/mo against Granola's $14, if interview notes must land in your ATS.

Stands out: Notes land on the candidate record rather than in someone's document.

Watch out: Each agent is priced separately, so adding Sourcing ($100 or $300 per user) or Application Review ($150 a month) to the $60 Notetaker adds up fast.

Best for

  • Recruiters who dislike writing up interviews
  • Teams that need notes on the ATS record
  • Buyers who want a free start

Fathom

$15/user/mo Free tier Free trial API

Why it comes up: Joins as a bot but keeps full recordings and clips you can share with hiring managers, with unlimited free recordings, where Granola keeps no audio at all.

Stands out: Fathom's free plan has no cap on recordings, transcripts or instant summaries, and paid plans come with a 90 day money back guarantee.

Watch out: There is no ATS writeback, only CRM sync. Team and Business need at least two users, and Team works out cheaper than the individual Premium plan.

Best for

  • Solo recruiters who want an uncapped free note taker
  • Agency desks that live in a CRM for client work
  • Teams that share call highlights through playlists

Otter

$8.33/user/mo Free tier

Why it comes up: Cheaper paid plan from $8.33/user/mo and a live transcript during the call, though it joins your meetings as a bot.

Stands out: Otter's transcript builds live during the call, so you can scroll back mid interview, and the free Basic plan gives 300 minutes a month without a card.

Watch out: Otter does not write notes into an ATS. Pro caps transcription at 1,200 minutes a month and 90 minutes a meeting, and SSO needs a 100 user Enterprise licence.

Best for

  • Recruiters who want a free note taker for screening calls
  • Small teams on Zoom, Teams or Meet
  • People who want to read the transcript while the call is still running
