Bottom line

MIT-licensed open-source ATS you can clone and self-host free on Supabase, or have its maker SparxIT build and host for you at a quoted project price. There is no seat pricing, and the AI features run on your own Gemini key.

Stands out for: Security features that hosted vendors usually save for enterprise plans, including SAML SSO, staff MFA and an append-only audit log, sit in the free MIT code. Its pipeline health grade, Do strip of next actions and weekly Radar run on fixed rules rather than AI, so they work with no API key at all.

Watch out for: The public GitHub repo is a sanitized snapshot of SparxIT's private codebase, with a single commit and a handful of stars, so community activity and release history are thin. Self-hosting means running Supabase, its edge functions and AWS SES email yourself, and there is no hosted trial to try first.

Overview

The Talent App is an open-source applicant tracking system released under the MIT license by SparxIT, a software firm that runs its own hiring on it. It covers jobs, a kanban pipeline with Board and List views, a searchable talent database with CSV and Naukri import, digital application forms built from a question bank, interview scheduling with panel feedback and scorecards, assessments with integrity monitoring, a branded careers page with JobPosting markup, and an applicant portal where candidates track their status. It installs on phones as a progressive web app.

There are two ways to run it. Developers can clone the GitHub repo, connect a Supabase project and deploy the React front end to Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare Pages or their own servers at no license cost. Teams that want it done for them book a demo, and SparxIT scopes a custom deployment covering workflows, branding, SSO, hosting, training and support, priced by hiring volume and complexity rather than seats.

AI is optional and stays off until you add a Google Gemini API key. With a key it parses resumes, scores job fit, drafts interview kits and tiered assessments, flags profile inconsistencies, and runs Chitragupta, an agent that nudges recruiters when a role stalls or feedback is overdue. The command-palette search turns plain phrases such as a skill, years of experience and a city into candidate filters, and accepts browser voice dictation.

Who it's for

Best for

  • Companies with in-house developers who want to own their ATS code and data
  • Teams facing IT security reviews that need SSO, MFA and an audit log without enterprise pricing
  • Firms that want a vendor to build an ATS around their own stages and approvals
  • Hiring teams that would rather pay Google for Gemini directly than buy bundled AI

Not ideal for

  • Recruiters who want to sign up and start the same day without a developer
  • Staffing agencies that need client, placement and job board multiposting tools
  • Buyers who need a published price before a sales call

Key features

Hiring pipeline. Jobs, a Board and List workspace, drag-and-drop stages, a Do strip of next actions (decide, approve, schedule, chase feedback, clear no-shows), interview panels with scorecards and calendar invites, and job-linked assessments with tab-switch integrity monitoring.

Security and compliance. SAML 2.0 SSO for Okta, Microsoft Entra or Google Workspace, TOTP multi-factor sign-in for staff, an append-only audit log of who changed what, and settings for privacy policy, grievance officer and sub-processor disclosure, all in the open-source code.

The software is free under the MIT license: clone the GitHub repo, connect your own Supabase project and deploy it with no subscription. SparxIT, which makes it, also sells custom deployments covering workflows, branding, SSO, hosting, training and support; there are no seat tiers or self-serve plans, and price is scoped to hiring volume and complexity after a demo. Optional AI features need your own Google Gemini API key, billed by Google. There is no free trial of a hosted version. Confirm current terms on the vendor site.
