What can an AI assistant do with Clay?

Clay shares its tool list only after you sign in, so these capabilities come from the listing and Clay's own documentation. Your AI app shows the exact tools once it is connected.

Things recruiters ask tools like this

  • “Write a three-step sequence for these candidates and set it up as a draft campaign.”
  • “Which of last week's messages got replies, and who still needs a follow-up?”

How to connect Clay to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

When you add it, your AI app opens a sign-in window for Clay. Log in with your own Clay account and approve access. Nothing to copy or paste beyond the URL.

Server URLhttps://api.clay.com/v3/mcp

Claude on the web or desktop

  1. Go to Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector, name it Clay and paste the server URL.
  3. Click Add, then sign in to Clay when asked.
  4. In a chat, open the + menu and switch it on under Connectors.

On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it first under Organization settings.

Claude Code

  1. Run claude mcp add --transport http 'clay' 'https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp'
  2. Type /mcp to check it shows as connected and to sign in.

Cursor

  1. Open Settings, then MCP, and add a new server.
  2. Paste {"mcpServers":{"clay":{"url":"https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp"}}}
  3. Reload, then ask in the agent chat.

ChatGPT, Grok and others

  1. Add a custom connector or remote MCP server where your app and plan allow it.
  2. Paste the server URL. Transport is Streamable HTTP.

Steps follow Anthropic's guides to custom connectors and MCP in Claude Code. Menu names change, so check there if a label looks different. Start read only and keep sends, writes and credit spend on approval.

Questions

Does Clay have an MCP server?

Yes. Clay runs its own official MCP server at https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp, so an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can work inside Clay with your own account and permissions.

What is the Clay MCP server URL?

The server URL is https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp. Paste it into your AI app as a custom connector or remote MCP server.

Do I need to sign in to use it?

Yes. You sign in with your own Clay account when you add the connector, and the assistant only sees what your account can see.

Is the Clay MCP server working right now?

At our last check, 5 minutes ago, it was live. Answered with an MCP sign-in challenge, so the server is up and asks for your account.

Is it safe to connect Clay to AI?

An official server only lets the assistant see and do what your own Clay account allows. Start read only, keep anything that sends, writes or spends credits on approval, and check whether your admin needs to approve the connection.
