LinkedIn connection requests are accepted 28.5% of the time across 13.2 million requests (Expandi, May 2025 to April 2026), and staffing and recruiting senders lead every industry at 36.5%. The typical campaign turns about 18% of accepted connections into replies (HeyReach, 96,051 campaigns), which works out to roughly 4 replies per 100 requests. Three message sequences reply best at 9.8%, while five or more drop to 5.0%. Requests sent between 7 and 11am are accepted about 8 points more often than evening sends, and 60% of replies arrive within a week.
Data as of October 2026. Sources: Expandi LinkedIn Outreach Benchmarks 2026 and State of LinkedIn Outreach H2 2026 (13.2M requests, May 2025 to April 2026), HeyReach LinkedIn Outreach Benchmarks (96,051 campaigns, 12 months to September 2026), Belkins LinkedIn outreach study (15.1M contacts, 2025) and response time study (152,636 contacts, March 2025 to February 2026), LinkedIn Pressroom (2026).
What is LinkedIn prospecting, and is it still worth it in 2026?
LinkedIn prospecting is finding, qualifying and starting conversations with potential buyers on LinkedIn. For recruiters it has two jobs: winning job orders from hiring managers and reaching passive candidates. This guide focuses on the first, though most of the data applies to both.
The audience is still growing. The LinkedIn Pressroom lists more than 1.3 billion members, 290 million or more in North America, and about 18,000 new connections made every minute.
What changed is the competition. Every major outreach tool now publishes its own benchmark data, so you no longer have to guess what good looks like. We pulled the three largest public datasets together on one page, then turned them into a plan you can run.
What are the LinkedIn prospecting benchmarks for 2026?
Here are the headline numbers from each study, side by side. Each one measures replies a little differently, so compare rows within a study before comparing studies.
| Metric | Expandi | HeyReach | Belkins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sample | 13.2M requests, 13,302 accounts | 96,051 campaigns | 15.1M contacts plus 14,077 tracked records |
| Period | May 2025 to April 2026 | 12 months to Sept 2026 | January to December 2025 |
| Connection acceptance | 28.5% average | 20.75% median, 23.85% average | 26% average |
| Reply rate | 10.4% of messages sent | 22.22% of conversations started | 7.2% of messages sent |
| Accepted connections that reply | Not reported | 18.10% median | 17.6% (own campaigns) |
| Meetings | Not reported | Not reported | 1.3% of connected prospects |
Why do the studies disagree?
Denominators. Expandi’s 2026 benchmarks divide replies by every outbound message, including follow ups. HeyReach’s campaign report divides by conversations started, so each prospect counts once. That is why HeyReach’s reply rate looks twice as high.
HeyReach also reports medians, which sit below averages when a few campaigns perform very well. Use the median as your “normal” line and the average as a stretch target.
What acceptance rate should you expect in your industry?
Benchmark against your own industry, not the platform average. Expandi measured acceptance by the sender’s industry across 60 plus sectors, and the spread runs from 17.5% to 40.1%.
| Sender industry | Acceptance | Note reply | Message reply | Requests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Staffing and Recruiting | 36.5% | 6.6% | 18.9% | 423,792 |
| VC and Private Equity | 34.9% | 5.5% | 11.0% | 135,376 |
| Human Resources | 30.5% | 4.2% | 9.7% | 260,081 |
| Marketing and Advertising | 29.4% | 2.4% | 10.6% | 1,038,187 |
| All industries | 28.5% | 3.0% | 10.4% | 13,218,869 |
| IT and Services | 28.4% | 2.6% | 10.5% | 1,731,259 |
| Management Consulting | 28.0% | 3.1% | 9.2% | 1,029,342 |
| Computer Software | 27.5% | 2.8% | 8.8% | 1,831,933 |
| Financial Services | 26.0% | 2.2% | 10.3% | 732,855 |
Recruiters lead on every metric, roughly double the platform on replies. That cuts both ways. The staffing benchmark page points out that a recruiter at 30% acceptance is above the cross industry average but below par for the sector.
How many replies do 100 connection requests produce?
About 4 for a typical campaign and about 7 for a typical recruiter. The chart below is a Work Insiders model: HeyReach’s median acceptance (20.75%) times its median reply to acceptance rate (18.10%), next to Expandi’s staffing acceptance (36.5%) times its staffing message reply rate (18.9%).
Belkins tracked its own campaigns all the way to the calendar: 1.3% of connected prospects booked a meeting. At a 28.5% acceptance rate, that is about 0.37 meetings per 100 requests, or one meeting for every 270 requests sent.
Where does the funnel leak?
After acceptance, not before. HeyReach found that 10.7% of campaigns with accepted connections got zero replies. Use its thresholds to find your leak.
| Your numbers | Likely problem | Fix first |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance under 13% | Wrong list or weak profile | Tighten your ideal customer filters, rewrite your headline |
| Acceptance healthy, reply under 13% | First message | One specific reason to reply, one question, no pitch |
| Both under 13% | Targeting | Rebuild the list before touching copy |
| Accepted to reply under 9.62% | Gap after acceptance | Send the first message within 2 to 3 days of connecting |
| Acceptance over 31.78%, reply over 33.33% | Nothing | Scale volume carefully |
Should you add a note to connection requests?
Yes, if you want meetings rather than connections. The Belkins outreach study compared 11.5 million requests sent in 2025.
| Request type | Connection rate | Reply rate |
|---|---|---|
| With a personalized note | 25.3% | 8.2% |
| Blank request | 27.6% | 5.3% |
Blank requests win 2.3 points of acceptance and lose 55% of replies. People who accept knowing why you reached out are already filtering themselves in.
One warning: replies to the note itself are fading. Expandi saw note replies fall from 3.5% in May 2025 to 2.2% in April 2026, a 37% drop, while replies to messages sent after acceptance held at 10% to 11%. Treat the note as an entry ticket and save your real pitch for later.
The best notes reference a tie that already exists. In the Expandi H2 report, against a 30.2% baseline, “thanks for the follow” openers were accepted 81.1% of the time and “thanks for joining my group” 63.6%. Writing in the prospect’s own language also showed up repeatedly among top performers.
How many follow up messages should you send?
Three. Across 2,966 Expandi campaigns, reply rate peaked at three messages and fell below a single message once sequences reached five.
The second message converts best per person reached, at 8.8% per send, because it lands after the prospect has already accepted. Put your strongest pitch there, not in the note.
Keep each message short. In single message campaigns, 151 to 200 characters (about two short sentences) replied at 8.5% against a 6.8% baseline. Longer messages did not collapse, so one clear ask matters more than the exact count.
| Message length | Campaigns | Reply rate |
|---|---|---|
| 51 to 100 characters | 60 | 5.1% |
| 101 to 150 characters | 60 | 6.3% |
| 151 to 200 characters | 57 | 8.5% |
| 201 to 300 characters | 116 | 5.9% |
| 301 to 500 characters | 59 | 7.6% |
| Over 500 characters | 97 | 5.8% |
When is the best time to send LinkedIn connection requests?
Morning. Expandi found requests sent between 7 and 11am were accepted at about 32%, against about 24% in the evening. Reply rate did not change with time of day, and day of week barely moved either metric.
Patience matters more than timing. The Belkins timing study of 152,636 contacts shows how long each stage really takes.
| Milestone | Benchmark |
|---|---|
| Median time to accept | 1 day (62% accept within 24 hours) |
| Connections made by day 14 | 91% |
| Median time to first reply | 5 days |
| Replies received by day 7, 30 and 60 | 60%, 91.8% and 97.5% |
| Median time to booked meeting | 10 days |
| Average reply time, C level and VP | 13 to 14 days |
Two cutoffs fall out of this. Withdraw requests nobody has accepted after 14 days, and stop a sequence at 60 days. Do not write off a quiet VP after one week; senior buyers reply late more often, not less.
How many connection requests can you send per week?
Plan on about 100 a week. LinkedIn does not publish the number, and its help pages say support cannot disclose details of invitation restrictions. Practitioners such as Salesforge’s limit guide put the practical cap around 100 per rolling seven day window, and say Premium and Sales Navigator do not meaningfully raise it.
Acceptance rate is your real lever. Low acceptance and “I don’t know this person” reports tend to shrink your allowance, while relevant requests protect it. A list that earns 35% acceptance gets you 35 conversations from the same 100 slots that earn 20 on a sloppy list.
Be careful with automation. LinkedIn’s prohibited software policy bans third party tools that scrape or automate activity on its site, and every automation vendor carries that risk to your account. If you automate, keep volumes human, warm up new accounts slowly, and never run several tools on one profile.
Is Sales Navigator worth it for prospecting?
For search, yes. For results, less than you would think. These are the self serve prices reported in mid 2026 by Woodpecker’s pricing breakdown and others; LinkedIn’s own checkout can vary by region.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | InMail credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $119.99 per seat | $89.99 per seat a month ($1,079.88 a year) | 50 a month |
| Advanced | $159.99 per seat | $149.99 per seat a month ($1,799.88 a year) | 50 a month |
| Advanced Plus | Custom quote | Reported from about $1,600 per seat a year | 50 a month |
Here is the surprise. Across nearly 11,000 campaigns, Expandi found Sales Navigator leads were accepted at 19.8% versus 18.5% for CSV imports, and reply rates were identical. That is about one extra acceptance per 77 requests.
Buy Sales Navigator for its filters, saved searches and job change alerts, which save hours of list building. Do not buy it expecting better replies. A good list from any source performs the same.
Who replies most on LinkedIn?
HR and talent people, which is good news if you sell recruiting services. Belkins measured reply rate by the recipient’s role across 15.1 million contacts.
| Who you message | Reply rate |
|---|---|
| HR and Talent professionals | 10.9% |
| C level executives | 7.0% |
| Founders and Owners | 6.4% |
| Marketing and Finance | Under 6% |
| Everyone, global | 7.2% |
| Everyone, United States | 6.0% |
US prospects reply less than most markets, at 6.0% against the Netherlands’ 10.5%. If you prospect into the US, treat 6% as your baseline and anything above 8% as excellent.
Already connected beats cold. Messaging people who are already first degree connections replied at 12.2%, the best campaign type Belkins measured, compared with 7.9% for standard connect then message campaigns and 7.5% for InMail.
How should recruiters and staffing agencies prospect on LinkedIn?
Start from a hiring signal, not a job title. A company that just posted three engineering roles, raised money or lost a TA leader has a reason to answer you this week. Our guide to finding clients with Claude walks through a daily signal routine.
Then run this sequence, built from the data above:
| Day | Step | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Before day 1 | View their profile, follow, react to a recent post | Creates the existing tie that top notes reference |
| Day 1, morning | Connection request with a short note naming the signal | Morning sends accept about 8 points higher; notes lift replies 55% |
| Day 2 to 3 after accepting | Message 2: one sentence on the signal, one question | Highest per send reply rate at 8.8% |
| Day 7 to 10 | Message 3: a useful asset, such as salary data for the role | Three message sequences peak at 9.8% |
| Day 14 | Withdraw unaccepted requests; email or call instead | 91% of connections happen by day 14 |
| Day 30 to 60 | One light check in, then close the loop | 97.5% of replies arrive within 60 days |
Pair LinkedIn with email. Recruiter email sequences averaged a 16.9% reply rate in Gem’s 2025 data, covered in our funnel benchmarks. Check your copy in our free spam word checker before it goes out.
Post on LinkedIn too. Expandi found accounts with 1,000 or more followers and consistently engaged posts were accepted at about 30.5%, against 27% to 29% across the platform. The sample was small, but posting costs nothing and puts your name in the feed before your request arrives.
Do AI written messages work on LinkedIn?
As drafts, yes. As final copy, not yet. When Expandi compared each account’s AI personalized campaigns with the same account’s own templates, human copy won on acceptance by about 12% and reply rates were flat.
Belkins saw a small lift: 7.3% reply with AI prompts against 7.0% without, almost all of it on the first message. Use AI to draft fast, then rewrite with what you actually know about the prospect.
Which LinkedIn prospecting tools are worth a look?

How many meetings will your LinkedIn prospecting book?
Plug in your own numbers. The defaults are the benchmarks from this page: 28.5% acceptance (Expandi), 18.1% of accepted connections replying (HeyReach) and 1.3% of accepted connections booking a meeting (Belkins).
LinkedIn prospecting calculator
Weekly and monthly results from your request volume
Month = 4.33 weeks. Benchmarks: Expandi 2026, HeyReach 2026, Belkins 2025. Staffing preset uses Expandi’s staffing acceptance (36.5%) and message reply rate (18.9%).
At the defaults, 100 requests a week produce about 28 connections, 5 replies and 0.4 meetings a week, or roughly 1.6 meetings a month per LinkedIn account. That is why the best teams fix their list before they buy more volume.
What does a 30 day LinkedIn prospecting plan look like?
| Week | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Rewrite headline and About around the client problem you solve; post twice; build a list of 200 prospects with a signal | List ready, profile complete |
| Week 2 | Send 100 morning requests with short notes; run the three message sequence | Acceptance at or above your industry row |
| Week 3 | Diagnose with the leak table; rewrite message 2 if replies trail acceptance | Accepted to reply above 18% |
| Week 4 | Withdraw requests older than 14 days; email the quiet ones; keep posting | First meetings booked; decide whether to scale |

How we built this page
We took every figure from the publisher's own report in October 2026 and noted each sample and period. All three benchmark publishers sell LinkedIn outreach tools or services, so their samples are their own customers. Expandi measures by sender industry, not recipient industry. HeyReach reports medians. Belkins blends its own campaigns with Expandi platform data.
The 100 request chart, the meetings per 100 requests figure and the calculator are Work Insiders models that multiply published rates; the arithmetic is shown next to each. Sales Navigator prices are third party reports of LinkedIn's self serve pricing. We do not have a commercial relationship with any tool in this guide.
Quick answers
What is a good LinkedIn connection acceptance rate?
Across all industries, 28.5% is average (Expandi) and HeyReach's median campaign sits at 20.75%. Above about 32% is strong. Recruiters should aim higher, since staffing senders average 36.5%.
What is a good LinkedIn reply rate?
About 10% of messages sent (Expandi) or 22% of conversations started (HeyReach median). For US prospects, Belkins puts the baseline near 6% of messages sent.
Should I send blank connection requests?
Only if you care more about connections than meetings. Blank requests are accepted slightly more often (27.6% versus 25.3%) but get 55% fewer replies (Belkins).
How many follow ups should I send on LinkedIn?
Three messages in total. They reply at 9.8%, while five or more fall to 5.0%, below a single message (Expandi, 2026).
What is the LinkedIn weekly invitation limit?
LinkedIn does not publish it. Most accounts land around 100 requests per rolling seven days, and higher acceptance rates help protect your allowance.
Can I prospect on LinkedIn without Sales Navigator?
Yes. Expandi found reply rates were identical for Sales Navigator leads and CSV imports, and acceptance differed by only 1.3 points. Sales Navigator saves list building time, not reply rate.
How long should I wait for a LinkedIn reply?
Give it a week before judging and up to 60 days before stopping. The median reply arrives in 5 days, 60% arrive within a week and 97.5% within 60 days (Belkins).
Is LinkedIn automation allowed?
LinkedIn's policy prohibits third party software that scrapes or automates activity on the site. Automation tools reduce the risk with human like limits, but they cannot remove it.
